Regally Ready nabs More Than Ready Mile

Saturday’s $200,000 More Than Ready Mile at Kentucky Downs had a fitting result when even money favorite Regally Ready pulled clear to a 2 ¼ length win in the race named for his sire.

Regally Ready, a seven-time stakes winner of over $1.4 million coming into Saturday’s race, set a few lengths behind Stormy Going in the early going, then took over with authority outside the quarter, winning comfortably in 1:35.25, less than a fifth of a second off the track record (VIDEO).

“He’s just an amazing, extremely versatile, fun horse,” trainer Steve Asmussen said afterward.

Owned by Vinery Stables, Regally Ready’s biggest victory came in the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G2). After Saturday’s win, his bankroll now stands at $1,606,806. Vinery bought the now 7-year-old for $110,000 at the 2008 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

The race formerly was known as the Franklin-Simpson Mile until being sponsored by WinStar Farm, home of More Than Ready.
