It’s no secret that the New York Yankees hold a special place in trainer Eoin Harty’s heart. The conditioner has been spotted countless times wearing his beloved pinstripes, and not just on trips to the east coast.
Well the Yankees were not in town back in July of 2008 when Bill Casner’s pride and joy Well Armed captured the San Diego Handicap, but a blossoming quarterback by the name of Drew Brees was.
Standing there in Del Mar’s winners circle after the race, neither athlete had any idea how very similar the careers of the other had been and would become.
Both had rehabbed from very serious injury-the equine athlete from a fractured hip and the quarterback from a shoulder/rotator cuff. Both had also joined new “teams.” Brees had signed on with the Saints organization and Well Armed of course into the barn of Eoin Harty. Neither would look back.
In 2009,Well Armed would go on to capture the world’s richest prize, the 6 million dollar Dubai World Cup by 14 lengths! Not to be outdone, Breese would lead his New Orleans Saints to a win over the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV by a 31-17 score. The winning margin-14 points of course.
