Pioneerof the Nile: Keeneland September day 3 another blockbuster

Buoyed by a pair of juveniles that brought more than $450,000, Pioneerof the Nile had another stellar day at the Keeneland September Yearling sale on Wednesday. Through the first three days of the sale, which compromises the illustrious Book 1, the WinStar stallion leads all third crop sires represented with an average price of $296,364.

Topping Wednesday’s session for her sire was hip No. 603, a filly consigned by Clarkland Farm that went to Speedway Stables for $480,000. The filly is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1-placed Top Decile and is out of Sequoia Queen, a half-sister to stakes winner Barefoot Dyana.

Close behind the filly was hip No. 583, which sold for $475,000 to John Oxley. Consigned by Warrendale Sales, the colt’s dam Sambuca Classic has already produced a stakes winner in Anytime Magic.

Other highlights from Wednesday include hip No. 523, colt consigned by Dromoland Farm and purchased by Katsumi Yoshida for $325,000; and hip No. 496, a colt consigned by Woods Edge Farm and bought by Walnut Green for $270,000.

After a break on Thursday, the Keeneland sale continues through Sept. 26, with additional 30 lots by Pioneerof the Nile in the catalogue.
