Spring At Last fillies named finalists for 2012 Canadian Sovereign Awards

Spring At Last’s graded stakes winners Spring in the Air and Spring Venture were recently named 2012 Sovereign Award Finalists in the 2-year-old filly division. The Jockey Club of Canada will host their 38th Annual Sovereign Awards Ceremony at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto on the eve of the start of their live Thoroughbred race meet.

Spring At Last was the North America’s second-leading first crop sire in 2012, with $1,181,230 in progeny earnings, and is the only freshman sire with graded winners on all three racing surfaces. He is standing the 2013 season at WinStar Farm for $15,000 LFS&N.

Spring in the Air got her Grade 1 win in Keeneland’s Darley Alcibiades S. in early October and also finished second in the Natalma S. (G2) at Woodbine in September. Bred by WinStar and owned by John Oxley, Spring in the Air finished the year 2-2-0 in five starts, earning $431,519.

Spring Venture bested her stablemate in the Natalma and a month later took the Mazarine S. (G3), also at Woodbine. Like Spring in the Air, Spring Venture is trained by Mark Casse, but is co-owned by her breeder Stoneway Farm and Gary Barber. Spring Venture won three of four starts last year with earnings of $310,821.
