Super Majesty speeds to impressive Dogwood S. (G3) victory

Super Majesty stepped up to stakes company for the first time and came away with a flashy 1 ¾-length victory in the $100,000 Dogwood S. (G3) Saturday at Churchill Downs, setting up the 3-year-old daughter of Super Saver for a potential run in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint next month at Keeneland.

But for now the spotlight was on Saturday night’s stakes-record effort. After breaking a beat slow, Super Majesty recovered in a flash and was in front by a half-length after a quarter mile in :22.78 seconds. Pleasant Tales provided pressure through the first half-mile, but Super Majesty shook clear and was running well within herself in the stretch to finish the seven furlongs in 1:23.02 on a fast track.

“I talked to (trainer) Jerry (Hollendorfer) this morning and we didn’t think anybody had the speed that she has,” winning rider Alex Solis said. “They didn’t. I’m very fortunate to ride a filly like her. She has a lot of talent.”

With four starts over four different tracks, Super Majesty is a nose away from being undefeated. She has earned $133,860 for owners LNJ Foxwoods, which is comprised of Larry & Nanci Roth and their daughter Jaime.

“To have our first graded stakes win come at Churchill Downs is just amazing,” Larry Roth said. “It’s just incredible. We have a great team.”

Bred in Kentucky by WinStar Farm LLC, Super Majesty is out of Grade 3 winner Gins Majesty, a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Dancing in Silks.

Super Majesty was purchased for the Roths by the bloodstock team of Solis and Litt for $400,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Florida Select Sale of 2-year-olds in Training.

Super Saver’s stellar second crop includes winners of the Grade 1 Kings Bishop S. (Runhappy), Grade 1 Alabama S. (Embellish the Lace), and Grade 2 Indiana Oaks (High Dollar Woman). The WinStar stallion currently ranks third on the 2015 Second Crop Sire list.
